CORTLAND (AP) -- A new report says the New York Jets training camp held at Cortland State this summer attraced 34,000 people and brought $4.26 million to the Cortland County economy.

Economics professors at Cortland State released a report Tuesday detailing the economic impact of having the Jets training camp on the campus 28 miles south of Syracuse.

The report said 80 percent of all taverns on Main Street saw an increase in customers, and 46 percent of restaurants experienced a spike in sales. It noted that the Jets avoided chain restaurants, instead renting local bars or restaurants for team events.

The study found that visitors spent about $27 per person on food each day, but it found no noteworthy increase in merchandise sales at local stores.
