WASHINGTON -- Representative Ann Marie Buerkle voted against the "fiscal cliff" deal, which was approved in Congress late Tuesday night.

“Our country does not have a taxing problem, we have a spending problem. This legislation, while containing some commendable tax relief provisions, fails to address our nation’s spending and debt crisis," said Buerkle in a media release. "I could not in good conscience vote for a bill that raises taxes and does not cut spending. Our nation must develop true tax reform, stop wasteful government spending, and implement a pro-growth economic agenda. It is unconscionable to pass this debt off to the next generation. It must be dealt with now."

Due to an electronical error, Buerkle was recorded as "not voting" in the final counted tally; however, she did vote "no" for the Congressional Record.

Buerkle was the only U.S. representative from New York to vote against the fiscal cliff measure.
