RAY BROOK (AP) -- Writers who cover the great outdoors in New York say that Gov. Andrew Cuomo's tight control of state worker communications is making it tougher to cover tourism and recreation.

The Adirondack Daily Enterprise reports that writers around the state have had trouble getting information in a timely fashion from the Department of Environmental Conversation.

Many writers say the result is that it now takes days or weeks to get information, even when they are writing non-controversial stories about deer hunting, fishing or recreation.

At the heart of the issue is the agency's new method of handling press inquiries. Under Cuomo, the department has taken much of the local control away from regional spokesmen and given it to a central office in Albany.
