Couple faces federal charges in child sex case

WATERTOWN -- A Fort Drum couple is now facing federal charges in a Jefferson County child exploitation case.

Christopher and Amanda Jansen were charged with conspiracy to transport minors in interstate commerce, with the intent that the minors would engage in sexual activity. Christoper Jansen was also charged with the actual transport of the minors in interstate commerce.

The Jansens appeared in federal court and were remanded to the custody of United States Marshals. The investigation into these charges was carried out by the New York State Police. Amanda Jansen is a soldier assigned to Fort Drum.

These charges are in addition to a separate set of counts against the couple which are being processed in Jefferson County.

The federal charges alone carry a possible punishment of 10 years in prison and $250,000 in fines.
