Some good, others not so much

After some ugly weather earlier in the week, winter is back and our skis are on track! Rain and temperatures in fifties had ski areas shutting up shop for a few days there. With so few people heading to the slopes in those conditions, who can blame the mountains for doing so? Not to mention skiing and riding on what snow base was on the trails is actually bad for the snow’s survival. Cold has returned to Central New York and whenever the temperature permits you can be sure snow guns will be spraying. Expect changes in the number of trails every other day, so it’s best to call ahead to the ski area this time of the year. Better yet, we’ve got all the local ski area’s websites listed on the right side of Ski Central’s page for your skiing pleasure.
There really isn’t much happening at any of the mountains that stands out this week. Look for a big pick-up in this department to come about Christmastime. Ski schools are still actively looking for instructors to hire for the season. Never done it myself, but maybe someday I will give it a try. They’re looking for experienced skiers and boarders who want to teach other’s how to do what we love so much. Come with a smile on your face this Saturday and Sunday to Song and Toggenburg. Speaking of Song Mountain, did you know that if you buy a full season pass to either Song or Snow Ridge, you can ski at the other area for free all year? Two mountains for the price of one, something to think about for holiday gift giving.
An even better idea is the Half Off CNY Skiing Package for only $100. This card will allow for a one day lift ticket at each of seven local resorts to use this winter. To put this into perspective I’ll do the math here folks. 100 bucks divided by 7 lift tickets roughly comes out to 15 dollars per day. Now that’s a recession buster. This lift ticket package would normally set you back over $240 and there is a limited supply available. If you have ever bought one of the Half Off Dining gift certificates from CNYcentral.com, we are working with the same company here to provide these. The packages are selling well, so get them before they’re gone.
Personally, I have yet to make a run this season. I did take my skis into a ski shop in the area which will go unnamed. I got a wax and sharpening to my Atomic Supercross SX-11 bad boys. Now if Santa comes through for me like I told him in my blog last week, I’ll be keeping my feet warm in a nice new pair of ski boots to go on top of them.
Have you been out on the slopes already this year? Post a comment right below this Blog about your outing so other readers can hear about it. Have a picture from it? Shoot it my way via email at mbrookins@CNYcentral.com and maybe I’ll show it on the WSTM NBC-3 next week! Happy trails….
