Cold weather is a good thing. Without it we would have no snow. No snow=no skiing. Too much of anything is never good, except for snow, love and a few other things. Bitter cold air has a tendency to turn people away from the slopes but it doesn’t have to be that way. Just make sure you prepare for what Mother Nature throws your way. As a skier I’ve always thought that way which is why I chose to become a meteorologist. Weather its snow, rain, cold, warmth or wind, the right gear can get you through just about anything. Fashion goes out the window in harsh weather and cold. Wear a hat; cover your face; mittens are better than gloves; and layer your clothing all good tips. Come on out this MLK weekend, stay warm and enjoy the packed powder conditions with almost everything open for business.
This week at a ski area near you…Bristol holds their annual ski patrol hot dog sale this Saturday through Monday. Follow your nose down the slopes to outside the main lodge for some good grub for a good cause. Also this long weekend at Bristol will be a USSA freestyle event featuring up and coming mogul skiers trying to make the national team. Greek Peak will hold a meeting that is open to the public about phase two of their expansion. In the Zephyr Lounge they will discuss base facility developments, lift upgrades and future terrain expansion. Have you ever tried the smoked pulled pork and chicken from the BBQ King? He’s reported to be world famous and you will be able to this Sunday at Woods Valley. And saving the best for last, Song Mountain has some of the best conditions in ten years. And they are celebrating with a ten year old price. All lift tickets are only $25 at Song from 9am – 6pm on MLK Day Monday!
Let me know how your recent trip to a local ski area has gone. Just post a comment right below this Blog about your trip so other readers can hear about it. Better yet, take a digital picture and shoot it my way via email at mbrookins@CNYcentral.com. I might show it on the WSTM NBC-3 Television ski report next week! Happy trails…
