The ski blog takes a trip down lover’s lane for Valentines Day. Conditions at Woods Valley were lovely indeed, but for one Central New York couple, they were unforgettable on that day. A big shout out goes to Trevor Fletcher from Rome, New York. He proposed to his fiancé with a unique twist. The photo to the right, taken from the chair lift, says it all. Also check out Trevor and his future wife, Lisa Pezzulo, celebrating the special evening in the lodge at Woods Valley.  I’m told that the lift stopped just above the spots and Trevor popped the question.  You’ll be happy to know that she said yes and the two stopped on the way down the trail for a champagne toast. I think a ski trip would make for the perfect honeymoon!

This week at a ski area near you…. Round up the family and head to the slopes. The first family fun day and night is this Saturday at Brantling. One low price for the entire family here as well as reduced lift prices for individuals. The other family sun day is Sunday at McCauley Mountain, where adult lift tickets will only set you back $20, $12 for the kids.  If team racing is your thang, Labrador is where it is at. Lab hosts the Onondaga Cup race which is sure fun for all. Snow Ridge and Toggenburg both host snowmobile hill climbs this weekend. Snow Ridge’s Saturday night under the lights. It’s Toggenburg’s turn Sunday evening.  And saving the best for last, here is one heck of a deal. Song Mountain is offering a free season pass for next winter if you buy a pass for the rest of this winter. It’s like getting two years for the price of one. You would normally expect this type of deal during the last couple of weeks of the ski season, not in middle February. We’ve got many weeks of skiing left this winter, don’t miss this deal.

On a personal note, after finding out via a MRI that I have a herniated disc in my lower back, I have been off the slopes. I’m doing everything and anything to heal as quickly as possible. In a little over a week I will be heading to Utah to ski some of the greatest powder on earth. Syracuse is known for its’ snowy winters, but it’s nothing compared to what Alta and Snowbird receive. The winter total is already up to 400” at the ski areas, just a short drive outside of Salt Lake City. A typical winter brings close to 500” there. Oddly enough, a lot of the snow is caused by the same process as in Syracuse, lake effect. In Utah’s case the snow comes off of the Great Salt Lake. I’ll be taking along a camera and will be sure to share some pictures in my blog when I return. More on the trip is coming next week. Until then…Happy trails…
