Ski season goes on despite a really bad week. I will be the first to say that the 10 day period in early to mid March wasn’t nice for what has been an outstanding winter. Thankfully the cold and snow from winter allowed snow bases to get deeper than normal and hence survive this long. Rain and temperatures in the 50s kills snow quickly. But believe it or not, there is still plenty of good snow out there. And look skiing to go into the end of March. Surfaces are now nearing spring conditions. That means some bare spots may surface and if you have a backup pair of skis, you might want to bring them out. Hours and services at resorts are becoming limited so make sure you call ahead. And we have the first two causalities of spring.  Brantling and Four Seasons have both shut down ski operations for the winter.

This week at a ski area near you….Spring skiing will only cost $20 for all lift tickets this weekend at Labrador. Lifts are only $5 Friday evening from 3-8:30pm at Snow Ridge. Then this Sunday at Snow Ridge you can enter their special open race at 1pm. Everyone with a competitive spirit or just wanting to have a little fun is welcome to participate. Bristol holds the Spring Carnival this weekend. Highlights include free lift tickets for those 12 & under, free beginner lessons, a ski patrol hotdog and veggie burger sale and the ‘Bump This’ mogul competition. I’m not sure what to think of this next one. Woods Valley will be serving their world famous Jackwax. Come and see just what sugar on snow really is. Greek Peak wants to give the economy a stimulus. They will hold a business to business event coming up on Tuesday. You can meet and greet CNY business professionals while skiing and riding. Networking is common place on the golf course; why not take it to the slopes? And saving the best for last, it’s the golden anniversary celebration at McCauley on Saturday and Sunday.  Plenty of racing, music, games and fun to be had. If you dress in vintage ski wear and gear Saturday lift tickets will be $10. And all day Sunday lift tickets will only be $5. Enjoy!

I want to thank meteorologist Matt Stevens for pitching in with the video ski report on Action News and CNYcentral.com for the past two weeks. We still need to get out on the slopes together so I can show you a thing or two like when we mountain bike! I’ll be back with the final chapter in the Central New York ski season next week. Until then, happy trails…
