Last call for the 2008/2009 ski season! It is hard to believe winter is over and time is running out for to make your last tracks in the snow. March has been a brutal month for the snowpack at Central New York ski areas. If it wasn’t for the cold and snowy December through February where ski areas were able to pile on the snow, we wouldn’t have made it this far into spring still on the slopes. Several local ski areas are still planning to reopen for Saturday and Sunday. Surfaces will be spring conditions meaning some bare spots, a wet snow and limited terrain may be available. If you want to ski into April you just have to travel a little further and I point out some mountains that you could do so at in this weeks video ski report on Ski Central.
This week at a ski area near you….Gore has a take your son to Gore week. Sons 19 and under ski for free with the purchase of a full price parent lift ticket. This ends on Sunday with a parent son race. This might make for some fierce competition on the mountain. Snow Ridge hosts their spring fling customer appreciation day on Sunday. Lots of good fun, races and food to be had at it. The best part of the day is you can ski for only $18.
The ski sweaters are going on the moth balls. Looking back at this season for myself, it was a year of highs and lows. I made my first trip out west to ski the greatest snow on earth in Utah. I also ruptured a disc in my lower spine and I’m still in pain as I write this. So I didn’t get out to the mountains nearly enough. But I’m sure most people say the same thing. With such an awesome sport, you can really never get too many ski days in. It’s a wrap for my ski blog this winter as well. I hope you enjoyed taking the chair lift ride with me through the season. I’ll be back next winter with more informative and fun news on the Central New York ski industry. Until then, happy trails…
