It will be a busy week in Central New York. Here is a look at some of the stories we’ll be watching in the week ahead.
Monday, the Syracuse Common Council debates the Cetro traffic plan that would move the bus transfer center away from Salina and Fayette Street to where the Red Cross Blood Center is now, on the south end of downtown. The Syracuse mayoral candidates take center state. They’re having dinner with Syracuse Neighborhood Watch at Lincoln School. Everyone’s invited from six to eight. Also on Monday, a talk on the Titanic, just this weekend there were final ceremonies for the last survivor. Monday’s talk is at Hannibal Community Center at 7:30.
Onondaga County’s Aging and Youth Department holds forums on senior’s needs Tuesday afternoon at Pensabene’s, Wednesday afternoon at Baldwinsville’s Canton Woods Senior Center.
And Wednesday,, the Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament gets underway. Top jumping horses are here at the festival at the OnCenter complex. It is free through Sunday.
Friday's the day the United Way sees businesses bring their pledges in---it's a festival and some groups dress up for the occasion. Also Friday, a candlelight vigil starting at Syracuse's Elmwood Presbyterian...remembering Sherry Schaub, who's unsolved murder dates back to 1998---when her body was found in Pompey. And yes, it's another week of traffic detours.
Saturday...the extended bottle refund bill goes into effect--with 5 cents deposits on water bottles. It is also Halloween...check all the events on our calendar, or weekend's best bets later this week.
And Sunday's very busy, too...the field band competition at the dome with bragging rights on the line. A new smoking law here in Onondaga county , keeping cigarettes 100 feet from hospitals...The speed limit at Onondaga Lake Parkway goes back to 45 for the winter months. Also on the parkway, Lights on the Lake preps are underway...and tickets go on sale, starting Sunday...
And Daylight Savings time ends...remember your clocks fall back an hour next Sunday morning...also a good time to change smoke detector batteries.
