A Syracuse man is dead, shot in the chest, after the vehicle he was in was sprayed with bullets along Route 690 in Geddes early Sunday morning. Sheriff Kevin Walsh tells Action News that the minivan then went to St. Joseph's Hospital, where a security guard was alerted, but the driver and several other occupants fled the scene, leaving medical people to care for 21 year old Daquan Williams. The Hudson Street man was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Sheriff Walsh says over 25 detectives are working the case--he and top department staffers were also in the office, early Sunday morning as possible evidence is analyzed and leads followed.
The victim and the others were believed at a Halloween Rave at the Clarion Hotel on Farrell Road, and coming back to Syracuse just before 1am when the second car came alongside the driver's side and sprayed the vehicle, hitting it several times. Williams was in the seat behind the driver. Investigators have recovered several rounds of ammunition, from the maroon Chrysler minivan. The owner was not involved, and is cooperating. Investigators are looking for information from anyone who may have been on 690 east this morning, or who can help: the number to call is 435-3081.
Sheriff Walsh says his investigators are also working with Syracuse Police, to see if the homicide is connected to other
shootings overnight. Just after 2:30am a man was dropped off at University Hospital with a shot to the head. Police believe that happened at South Salina and McKinley--those injuries are not life threatening.
