ALBANY (AP) -- Democratic Gov. David Paterson has launched a multimillion dollar, statewide TV ad campaign - the first in the 2010 governor's race.

The ads portray him as a man who did the right thing by making tough fiscal decisions, even if it hurt him politically.

Campaign spokeswoman Tracy Sefl says Friday the ads have no end date at this point, and could continue for weeks.

In one of the two ads, Paterson confronts the fact that many don't want him to run for a full term next year. But he says he's the one needed to make tough decisions on spending cuts, force business to pay what he calls a fair share in taxes, and challenge powerful unions to make sacrifices.

Republican candidate Rick Lazio is campaigning on the theme of ending the dysfunction in Albany.

I never thought I would say this, but Governor Paterson has my vote!

He has slapped down the sniveling serpents (civil servents, to you of civil speech habits), he has cut the spending, and he has showed the Senate as incompetent boobs - which they are.

Any politician that has infuriated the unions as heartily as Governor Paterson MUST BE DOING SOMETHING GOOD!

rest in peace, albany

I peresonally do not think Patterson would win this election he is not very well liked by the average citizen...So he is just wasting time and money. Money that could be used else where for more important things. Watch this election unfold as Patterson bombs out........

How dare he?
If he would give back half of the money he's putting in ads,put it back towards the Deficit. It would help.
Maybe GOV. David Paterson should take a cut in pay also.
Like the rest of us. I did.
He been cutting in the wrong places.
Charging more in other places that would hurt the poor. It seems that congress don't care. What happen to the old days of caring for the people?
