Robber Barons and Monopolies

Posted by David Sarnoff, Syracuse, NY - Sunday, November 08, 2009 at 8:36 a.m.

I think Time Warner has pillaged the area sufficiently for the last several decades to be put to rest.

The main problem is the USA allows for a MONOPOLY for these companies - that means that if we hire Verizon, they too will SET THE PRICE TO WHATEVER THEY WANT.

So a better idea would be to put the cable companies in competition - get the governement out of the business of TV and let the market set the rate.

I would say the same of College Football - on any college sport. The colleges make millions; the athletes MAKE NOTHING (at least legally). Set a fair and equitable rate for the athletes, and break up the MONOPOLIES. Make college athletics either an amateur event (as originally intended), or make it a money deal - with a bunch of hired thugs like the NFL or the NBA.

Then I won't be sickened when I listen to an Ivy League athlete that cannot conjugate a verb.

Just a Thought . . . .
