NORTH SYRACUSE -- The North Syracuse village board hopes it can resolve the conflict between the mayor and the police chief as soon as Friday.
At the Thursday night board meeting trustees talked about the physical altercation that happened at the end of September between Village Mayor John Heindorf and Police Chief Tom Connelly. The board has conducted its own investigation under the Employee Safety committee.
All of the trustees concurred the investigation was fair. They also said the findings will result in consequences, but they did not disclose what they would be. Chief Connelly has offered his reply to the report and is accepting the findings. Mayor Heindorf has delayed responding. The board received his written response tonight and had yet to review it. As of Thursday night the mayor had not accepted the findings.
North Syracuse Trustee Gary Butterfield talked about the importance of the village moving forward past this altercation. He said, "It's not good for the village or employees or the people we represent the taxpayers to have village offices not running as efficiently as they should or could."
