SYRACUSE -- Syracuse Police say a standoff that started with a domestic dispute at about 3:00 am has ended with a suspect in custody.

The incident took place at a home at 171 Malverne Drive, on Syracuse's north side. Police set up a command post at nearby Court Street and Loma Avenue, and had the busy Court and Wadsworth Street intersection blocked to traffic. Homes around the standoff were evacuated. The standoff ended just before 7:00 am, with the suspect in custody.

Syracuse Police Sgt. Thomas Connellan says the call came from a woman, who said she'd been physically assaulted in a domestic dispute, and had seen the man go into the basement with a gun. Police took no chances because they'd been called to the same home last May, for a man firing shots.

It's the second time this week that police were called to an armed standoff.  On Sunday night, a home break-in on North Geddes Street ended with the gunman dead, after two exchanges of gunfire with police.  As with this morning's atandoff, police used the Sheriff's Department's armored bearcat vehicle to assist in defusing the incident.
