HAMILTON, MADISON COUNTY -- The seventh graders in the Hamilton Central School District have truly given everyone in Central New York an inspiring story and a great example of how we all should be.

In an effort that was 100% student driven, with the foundation of teacher Jamie West, the kids decided to raise awareness for cancer through the Golisano Children’s Hospital in Syracuse. The students created their own Public Service Announcements which were shown to the entire student body, and sold ribbons which helped them raise $100 for the hospital through the Paige Yoleman Foundation.

Believe it or not, the efforts did not end there. These students took the initiative to write letters and presented them face-to-face to local Hamilton businesses, in the hopes of gaining more contributions. With the extra push they raised an additional $185 which was used to buy toys, hats, stuffed animals, CDs, and much more to donate to the children at the Golisano Children’s Hospital.

These acts are truly commendable and the fact that 12 and 13 year olds came up with these ideas on their own makes it even more remarkable. The students say they’ve learned life long lessons, and no doubt, the children they helped are extremely grateful.
