BREWERTON -- A Brewerton man has been charged with scheming to steal from his customers, after CNY Central first brought you this story last November.
According to a news release from the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office, detectives arrested 45-year-old Anthony Spinella of 9485 Steamship Manhattan in Brewerton on March 2. Spinella has been charged with two counts of second degree grand larceny, one count of first degree falsifying business records, and one count of first degree scheming to defraud.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Spinella, owner of Spinella’s Auto Sales at 2724 Brewerton Road in Mattydale, is accused of stealing money and property from multiple victims between September and December of 2009. Spinella is alleged to have accepted vehicles as trade with the understanding that he would pay off the customer’s existing lien. Spinella allegedly failed to make the required payments to pay off the liens on the traded vehicles and subsequently sold the traded vehicle without satisfying the existing loans with any of the lenders.
Police say Spinella is also accused of selling extended warranties to customers and then failing to apply the money to complete the registration process with the company underwriting the extended warranties.
Spinella was arraigned in the Town of Salina Court on March 2, where he posted bail in the amount of $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond.
