ONEIDA, MADISON CO. -- The human remains found near a creek in Oneida last week are of a white male.

According to a report from the Oneida Police Department, the skeletal remains that were found in a shallow grave off of Canal Road near Cowalson Creek have been classified as those of a Caucasian male between 26 and 50 years old. The bones were discovered Tuesday afternoon by a nearby fisherman.

Records from missing persons cases will be reviewed in an attempt to positively identify the remains. The Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s office says tests on the bones are still being conducted.

There had been speculation that the remains were of one of two unsolved missing persons cases in the Oneida area. This new information appears to rule out those theories.
