WATERTOWN -- The community of Watertown is coming together to help someone with Muscular Dystrophy.
The community has been raising money for months to help Storm Wood, 20. The goal is to make his home wheelchair accessible. About $10,000 has been raised, and now, construction is underway.
On Tuesday, crews were busy remodeling. Some workers say they plan to work 16 hour days until the job is finished. Many local companies donated time and materials for the cause.
The construction will include a kitchen and bedroom, but Storm is most excited about his new bathroom.
"It's been four years since I took a bath, so that'll be good," says Storm.
Storm has developed a support system in the North Country. He depends on Facebook to communicate with the world, and he has more than 3,000 Facebook friends. One of those friends is Watertown radio host Johnny Spezzano, who started the effort to renovate Storm's home.
"Storm has got an amazing personality," says Spezzano. "He said to me one time, 'John, I don't like to be sad.' He likes to be happy most of the time, and that rubs off."
Storm says he's overwhelmed to see his house transform. "I'm just really grateful for everyone's support and for everyone being my friend."
Workers hope to have the home finished by Saturday. Then, there will be a big reveal after the Watertown Armed Forces Day Parade.
