WEST MONROE, OSWEGO CO. -- A young child was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon after being hit by a car.

According to New York State Police, a four-year-old boy was struck by a moving vehicle at approximately 2:51 p.m. at the intersection of County Route 11 and Grannis Road in West Monroe. Troopers say the driver was heading down Route11 when the boy ran out into the road in front of the car.

Troopers say the driver did everything possible to avoid hitting the child. The driver swerved to avoid the child, but clipped the boy anyway.

Police say the victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was transported via helicopter from the scene to a Syracuse-area hospital with a broken arm.

Police are still investigating the case, but say they do not anticipate filing any charges against the driver.
