If you think play therapy is only for children who've been in abusive or traumatic situations, listen to Dr. Jodi Mullen, who both teaches and practices the technique.   Dr. Mullen says that children as young as two can benefit, because it lets them communicate fears and concerns through play instead of having to go the more difficult route of talking it out.  She says the end result is empowering the child, who then learns to talk out feelings instead of acting them out, often negatively.   At the same time her counselors work with children, they also do parenting classes and counseling to help understand--kind of a helping hand in parenting.  Integrative Counseling Services holds an open house at it Oswego offices on West Cayuga Street on Wednesday at 5:30 - 8pm.
Their website also has information on play therapy--or call 342-9255 (Oswego), 699-5123 (Cicero).
