Latest on Oswego River incident

OSWEGO -- Oswego City Police have released the names of the two victims that had been transported to the Oswego Hospital following their recovery from the Oswego River on September 28, 2010.

The deceased male has been identified as, 45 year old Leonard M. Nichols of Wellsurg, NY.

As of the time of this release, 52 year old Clifford Luther of Horseheads, NY remains at the Oswego Hospital in serious condition.

Further investigation into the incident has determined that audible alerts were given in the area regarding the risk of rising water. The investigation continues regarding the timeframe in which the alerts were given and when the water actually began to rise.

**Following is a statement from Mr. Kim Osmars, Chief Operating Officer of Brookfield Renewable Power's U.S. Operations regarding the drowning yesterday on the Oswego River:

"We are grateful for the work of all of those involved in the response to the tragedy that occurred yesterday. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their family, friends and loved ones at this difficult time. We've initiated a complete and thorough investigation of our safety and operations protocols, and are cooperating fully with local authorities. I have asked Brookfield's Chief Dam Safety Officer, Jeff Auser, to take charge of this investigation and he is on site now."

Brookfield will be giving at statement at Varick Linear Park at Varick Hydro Station today at 4:30pm for media. Entrance to the park is located to the left of the entrance to the Varick Hydroelectric Facility
