DALLAS, TX -- It's been described by some as loud as a lawnmower, even an airplane. That's stretching it, but it's probably just as loud as the sound of a crunching chip.

Have you heard the noisy new bags SunChips come in? Well, you won't hear them for much longer.

Frito-Lay hopes to quiet complaints about its noisy SunChips bags by switching out the biodegradable bags for the old packaging on most flavors. Read more about it in USA Today.

The snack maker says it will switch back to original packaging made of a type of plastic for five of the six varieties of the chips. It will keep the biodegradable and recyclable bags for its sixth variety, its original plain flavor.

Spokeswoman Aurora Gonzalez says the company has received complaints about the noise from the bags since they were launched in April 2009. They're louder than traditional bags because the material used for them is made from plants and has a different molecular structure.

People are already sounding off on this story online. It seems they can't wait to take a bite out of this story.

One reader writes, "I know it sounds silly, but I actually stopped buying Sun Chips because I had become so annoyed with the packaging. I didn't think it was a big deal at first, but it seriously became a problem if I wanted to watch TV or listen to music while eating from the bag."

Another disagrees, saying, "Although they are noisy, they are better for the environment...I usually don't eat their chips, but bought them because of the recyclable bag. Now, I guess I'll go buy something else."

And yet another reader thinks the whole discussion is ridiculous, writing, "Wow. People who have the time and energy to complain about chip packaging noise should find a better use for their time and energy."

Do you find the noisy SunChips bags annoying? Are you glad the company is changing them? Do you like that they're environmentally-friendly? Or are you baffled that people even have time to talk about this? Leave your comments below.
