HORNELL, NY (AP) -- Authorities say they're investigating the theft of a privately owned single-engine airplane from an upstate New York airport.

The Steuben County Sheriff's Office tells the Evening Tribune of Hornell that the pilfered plane is a 1964 Cessna 150-D last seen around Sept. 20 at Hornell Municipal Airport, 60 miles south of Rochester.

Investigators say it wasn't reported missing until Monday, after its owner was notified by airport employees that the aircraft was gone. Police say the employees had believed the plane was sold since it had been for sale since June.

Authorities say the plane is valued at $28,000.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the FBI's Elmira office are also investigating the theft.
