OSWEGO -- An Oswego teacher has been accused of getting physical with a female student, and has been placed on leave by the district while the incident is investigated.
According to a statement from Oswego City School District Public Information Officer Bill Foley, a teacher at Oswego High School has been placed on administrative leave, pending an internal investigation. The district would not identify the teacher, nor would they give a reason for the leave.
CNY Central reporter Jim Kenyon was able to confirm that the faculty member is Philip Reed, a mathematics teacher and coach of the varsity girls basketball team.
When contacted at his home Thursday morning, Reed confirmed that he was placed on leave over an allegation that he shook at 14-year-old female student in a classroom.
“There’s evidence to support my claim that nothing malicious happened here,” Reed said to Kenyon.
Reed says he’s confident that he will be exonerated, but would not comment further.
When asked if the district was sending home a letter to parents explaining the situation, Foley said no. He says that a letter would compromise the district's investigation, but he would not elaborate.
Oswego Police Department Captain Torre DeCair tells CNY Central reporter Jim Kenyon that no one has been arrested, and he cannot comment on a current investigation.
