Emphasis on what boaters can do
Think warm weather sports! The Central New York Boat Show opens on Wednesday at the State Fairgrounds, and besides showing off new and improved models for sale, a whole series of exhibits and talks is planned for current boaters.
Dave White, with NY Sea Grant, says emphases this year will be on keeping water clean. He showed us a bilge sock, aimed at soaking oily pollutants out of bilge water, and a ring that goes around a fuel nozzle, to keep splashes or spills from polluting. White says there will be lots if info on aquatic invasive species 'hitchhikers' as well--and how to keep them (including the jumping Asian Carp) from contaminating our waterways.
The CNY Boat Show runs Feb. 16 - 20, Wed-Fri 1 - 9pm, Saturday 10 - 9 and Sunday 10 - 5, in 3 buildings at the State Fairgrounds. www.cnyboatshow.com has the schedule for talks and exhibits.
