A snake, over 700,000 km is curling around the sun’s southeastern quadrant today.  No, it’s not the famed “Bronx Zoo MIA Snake” that we talked about on “Weekend Today in CNY” this morning.  It’s actually a filament of magnetism.  Check out this extreme UV image here. That’s nearly twice as long as the distance between Earth and our Moon!  Filaments like, these, according to Spaceweather.com, have a very tough time staying suspended forever.  Eventually, a collapse is possible.  This could end up triggering an explosion called a “Hyder flare.”
