SYRACUSE -- Syracuse Police have announced the arrest of three dozen people as part of a pair of prostitution busts over the past few months.

At a news conference Monday afternoon, police announced that they have charged 36 people as part of a three month long undercover prostitution sting in the Syracuse area. Police say their operation targeted woman who used the Syracuse New-Times, Backpage.com, and Escort.com to advertise for illegal services. Police say undercover officers responded to the ads, and made the arrests.

Police say 17 local women have been charged with prostitution, a misdemeanor. In addition, 19 men have been charged with patronizing a prostitute, a misdemeanor, after they responded to advertisements placed by police, and solicited undercover female officers for sex in exchange for money.

Police say their investigation is still ongoing, and more arrested are expected in this case.
