BINGHAMTON -- If you're traveling south on 81 towards Binghamton, you'll need to change your plans today. Part of Interstate 81 is closed right now because part of the road collapsed.
I-81 southbound from between Exits 6 and 7 just north of Binghamton remains shut down to traffic at this hour.
Gene Cilento of the State Department of Transportation tells CNY Central the section of the highway was closed because of an embankment slope collapsing due to flooding.
