SALINA, ONONDAGA CO. -- An Onondaga County man is under arrest after police say he crashed a stolen car Thursday morning.
According to State Police in North Syracuse, around 9:30 a.m. 26-year-old Christopher R. Biddlecome of Bear Road in Clay was driving a 2010 Hyundai Accent on the ramp from Taft Road to Interstate 81 south when he lost control of the car. The Hyundai struck the center barrier and rolled over, landing on its roof.
After the crash, police say Biddlecome got out of the car and flagged down a passing car, which took him to the Pilot Truck Stop on 7th North Street in the Town of Salina. Troopers responded to the truck stop, where they arrested Biddlecome. Police say their investigation revealed that the Hyundai was reported stolen from the K-Mart Plaza on Brewerton Road in Mattydale around 2:20 a.m. Thursday. Police say the owner reported the car stolen after he discovered it missing outside a business in the plaza where he worked as a custodian.
Biddlecome has been charged with felony criminal possession of stolen property, felony driving while intoxicated, and felony aggravated DWI. Troopers say he had a blood alcohol level of .18%. The legal limit in New York State is .08%. Biddlecome was arraigned in the Town of Salina Court and is being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center in lieu of $10,000 cash bail.
Interstate 81 south was closed for about an hour Thursday morning near Hancock Airport while crews cleaned up the wreckage after the crash.
