PREBLE -- Another round of severe weather rolled through Central New York Thursday afternoon, hitting the region with rain, thunder, and damaging high winds.
Around 2:15 p.m. the National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for most of Central New York, and subsequently issued additional advisories for severe thunderstorms. These storms dumped heavy rain on much of the area, and caused scattered tree damage, power outages, and reports of hail.
CNY Central viewers in Tully, Preble, and Homer have reported hail stones nearly the size of golf balls, and viewers in Cato have reported winds strong enough to topple trees.
Other parts of the area reported only light showers, or no weather activity at all, underscoring the hit-or-miss nature of these storms.
Here is CNY Central meteorologist Mike Brookins’ forecast:
- Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms, some severe with hail, heavy rain and damaging winds, will taper to isolated lighter showers overnight. Areas of fog develop. Muggy with a low of 60.
- Friday: Mostly cloudy with a few showers and afternoon thunderstorms. High 75.
- Saturday: Breaks of sunshine with a few more showers and afternoon thunderstorms. High 80.
