SYRACUSE -- Protesters against a controversial form of natural gas drilling known as hydrofracking were making their voices heard on Monday outside the state office building in downtown Syracuse.

More than 20 people holding signs were rallying in front of State Senator John Defrancisco's office, urging him and other state representatives to ban the natural gas drilling process in the state.

Right now, there is a moratorium on fracking while research is done on it.

These protestors say there is too much at risk, and they believe chemicals used in the process it will put drinking water and public health in jeopardy.

Those in favor of natural gas drilling in New York say it will be a multi-million dollar boost for the economy and help establish energy independence for our country.

Protesters against hydrofracking held similar rallies on Monday across the state.
