AUBURN --
Auburn City Police are asking your help in locating a woman who vanished from her home, leaving behind a sleeping infant.
Police say they were called at 12:14 this morning by a neighbor to check on the welfare of Katie M. Socci, 29, of 3 Swift Street, when the neighbor noticed Socci's dog outside her house barking. Police say it was unusual for the dog to be left outside. Police say Socci picked up her daughter around 6 p.m. Wednesday and came home at some point, but later vanished.
When police arrived at her house after midnight, there were no lights on in the home, and no one answered the door or phone calls.
Police were able to enter the home through an unlocked door and found no sign of Socci. Police did find an 18-month-old girl sleeping in an upstairs bedroom.
Investigators report there was no sign of a disturbance at the home. Socci's car was in the driveway, and her keys and cell phone were both located inside the home. Police say Socci leaving the child unattended at home is suspicious in nature.
Police have asked the Highland Search and Rescue team in Cayuga County for assistance in searching the area for Socci.
Socci is described as a white female, 29 years of age, approximately 5’04” tall and weighing 145lbs. Socci has brown eyes and brown hair. Socci also has a large “tiger lilly” tattoo on the left side of her abdomen and a small mole on her left cheek near the corner of her mouth. Socci is described as being last seen at approximately 8 p.m. and wearing dark blue nursing scrubs, top and bottoms, hoop earrings, with her hair in a ponytail and her bangs parted in the middle. She was also seen wearing dark brown clog type shoes.
