(AP) -- Federal authorities in New York have charged 10 people and seized about $2 million in connection with the distribution and sale of new designer drugs known as bath salts.

Prosecutors say the arrests were made Tuesday following raids on shops in Manhattan and Brooklyn that sell the hallucination-inducing drugs.

According to WNBC, the U.S. Attorney's office in Manhattan said a major distributor out of Seattle was among those arrested.

They all face multiple drug charges.

The drugs are often marketed with a wink on the Internet or in convenience stores as bathing salts or plant food.

U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer wants the federal government to ban the drug. A handful of states have already banned the active ingredients found in the powders.
