SYRACUSE (AP) -- Habitat for Humanity is seeking hundreds of volunteers to dismantle a bowling alley built in a downtown Syracuse arena for a three-month women's bowling tournament that wraps up this weekend.

The organization tells the Post-Standard of Syracuse that the group plans to recover lumber used to build the 48-lane bowling alley inside the Oncenter earlier this year for the USBC Women's Championship that began in early April.

The hardwood lanes will be dismantled and reused, but the USBC is letting Habitat for Humanity salvage the two-by-fours and framing under the lanes and walls, along with some carpeting.

The salvage work is set to begin on next Thursday and continue for a week. Organizers say they expect to gather enough two-by-fours to build six homes.
