SYRACUSE -- Three Pennsylvania men have been sentenced in federal court in Syracuse for the fatal shooting of a Central New York police officer after a jewelry store robbery in 2006.
A federal jury last November convicted 42-year-old Toussaint Davis, 38-year-old Marion Pegese, and 32-year-old Robert Ward of murder, robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery for the February 27, 2006 holdup outside Lennon's W.B. Wilcox Jewelery Store in New Hartford that led to the shooting death of New Hartford Officer Joseph Corr.
The three were also found guilty of robbing a New Jersey jewelry store in August of 2005.
Tuesday, all three convicted accomplices were sentenced to life in prison without parole. Their robbery sentences are to run concurrent to the murder sentences. The defendants were also ordered to pay back more than $1.1 million for the stolen jewelery which was never recovered, plus victim costs.
A fourth suspect, Walter Richardson, was killed by U.S. Marshals following a standoff outside Philadelphia the day after Corr died. Police say Richardson fired a single shot that killed Corr during a foot chase.
