GEDDES -- Actor Alec Baldwin joined his mother to work a cancer booth at the New York State Fair in suburban Syracuse.
The star of "30 Rock" helped out for a few hours Wednesday afternoon at the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund booth at the fair. The nonprofit has a booth in the Center of Progress Building, where a motorcycle will be raffled. There's also a booth in the Science & Industry Building.
Baldwin's mother, Carol, lives in the Syracuse suburb of Camillus and is a cancer survivor.
Baldwin took pictures and shook hands with fans. He joked that he wants more fundraising events here in Central New York that he can take part in.
"It's not lost on me that all the fundraising events up here are geared towards my brothers. My brothers ride motorcycles, my brothers play golf. I said to my mother 'where's my scrabble tournament for breast cancer'?"
Baldwin says the upstate chapter of his mother's foundation regularly raises more money than the downstate chapter.
Baldwin has appeared with his mother in commercials for Wegmans supermarkets, and has spoken out against a plan to transport toxic sediments from Onondaga Lake to a waste bed in Camillus.
