TYRONE (AP) -- A Fort Campbell, Ky. based soldier from western New York has been killed in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense said Sunday that 21-year-old Spc. Christopher J. Scott of Dundee, died Saturday in Kandahar province. The U.S. government says Scott died of wounds suffered when insurgents fired on his unit.

Family friend Amy Francione tells the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle that Scott was scheduled to return home in 12 days to be married.

Scott was assigned to the 716th Military Police Battalion, 101st Sustainment Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).
