SYRACUSE -- Two people are facing charges in connection with two violent armed robberies that happened in Syracuse.

Howard Underwood, 43, is charged with 1st degree robbery, 1st degree assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. He's accused of entering the Subway at 2500 James Street Sunday night and hitting a customer in the face with a metal pipe before leaving with cash. He's also accused of robbing the Sunoco gas station at 1000 West Genesee Street Monday morning and assaulting another person, according to police.

Underwood confessed to both crimes when he surrendered to police, according to a press release.

Robert Baker, 48, is charged with 1st degree robbery. He was the driver of a get away car in both incidents, according to police.

Baker and Underwood were arraigned in Syracuse City Court on Tuesday morning, and pleaded not guilty. Underwood was given $100,000 bail, and no bail was given for Baker.

Baker and Underwood are expected back in court on October 14.
