SYRACUSE -- The Syracuse man accused of robbing a bank pleaded not guilty in court this morning.

Syracuse police say 42-year-old John Brown walked into the Bank of America on East Genesee Street, near Syracuse Stage, around 4 p.m.Thursday. They say he told the teller he had a weapon and demanded money. He got away with cash, but police aren't saying how much.

Investigators talked with witnesses and watched surveillance footage of the robbery. They arrested Brown at a group home at 164 Ostrander Avenue less than two hours later.

Police say Brown had crack cocaine on him at the time of his arrest. He is charged with robbery and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Brown has two prior felony convictions. No bail was set at today's arraignment. He's due back in court next Wednesday.
