If you're hitting the stores for Black Friday shopping, make sure you have a plan ahead of time.
Linda Rudnick-Smith, a financial specialist with Clearpoint Credit Counseling Solutions in Syracuse, says that can save you a lot of trouble when you get the bills after the holiday season.
"It does add up, so keep track of everything you spend," says Rudnick-Smith. "Save your receipts. Set a limit on how much you can spend. Otherwise, January and February could be really hard months."
It's also important to price compare.
Kelly Lux, a social media strategist with Syracuse University's ischool, says that's easier than ever before, if you use technology.
Lux says one of the sites she uses is called TGI Black Friday. It helps you keep track of deals being offered at major stores.
She also recommends using apps, like "The Slice" and "The Find", to organize purchases and find good deals. Lux says technology can save you time and money.
"You don't have to wait to get the ads," says Lux. "They're all online and very easy to compare. You can say, 'Do I really need to stand in line at Walmart at 4 or 5 in the morning, or can I just buy it now online?'"
