SYRACUSE -- The historic Columbus monument in downtown Syracuse has been defaced.
CNYcentral was notified of the graffiti work by someone walking by Thursday morning. Paint was splashed on the monument and the phrase "500 years of genocide and imperialism - wake up" was written on the base.
It isn't known when the monument was defaced.
