Federal prosecutors utilize third warrant to search Fine's locker
SYRACUSE -- Sources close to the investigation say Federal agents have executed a third search warrant in the Bernie Fine case.
Law enforcement returned to the Carmelo K. Anthony basketball complex at Manley Field House early this morning to search the locker of the former associate head basketball coach at Syracuse University.
Tuesday morning the same team of police and investigators led by Assistant United States Attorney Steven Clymer searched the office of the 36 year assistant of Hall of Fame coach Jim Boeheim. That search lasted for three hours from 5:30 a.m. until 8:30 a.m.
A series of sealed search warrants were authorized by Federal Magistrate Judge Andrew Baxter over the last week. The first warrant was approved on Friday, November 25th which is the day federal agents, Syracuse police and New York State Police raided the Dewitt home of Bernie and Laurie Fine. Among items removed from their property was a locked filing cabinet.
The second warrant was signed on Monday, November 28th by Magistrate Judge Baxter after being requested by prosecutor Steven Clymer. The following morning federal agents searched Fine's office.
Magistrate Judge Baxter approved a third warrant on Tuesday, November 29th. The following morning police and law enforcement searched Fine's locker also at Manley Field House.
Each of the sealed warrants was accompanied by a supporting affidavit. All of the documents are sealed. The contents are unknown to those outside of the court and the investigation.
The proclamations of the third accuser in the Bernie Fine case, Zachary Tomaselli, have been credited for giving prosecutors legal foundation to move forward with the search warrants that led to the raids at the Fine residence and the Carmelo K. Anthony Basketball Center.
Thursday marks two weeks since ESPN Outside the Lines first told the story of the first two accusers of Bernie Fine. Bobby Davis and Michael Lang claim Fine sexually abused them when they were boys who were connected to the Syracuse University basketball program.
