BOUCKVILLE, MADISON CO. -- A Bouckville man is facing twenty charges of animal cruelty in the death of a horse and the illness of several others.

It stems from a multi-month investigation by Madison County Sheriff's Deputies and the ASPCA.

Sheriff's deputies say 58-year-old Jerry Schmidt, of Canal Road, was in charge of the care of the horses and failed to provide proper food and sustenance for them. Deputies say one horse died and several developed health-skin conditions. Lack of proper care was determined to be a factor.

Schmidt is also being investigated by Madison County Sheriff's for other animals found on his property.

He's scheduled to appear in the Town of Bridgewater court to face the charges against him.
