SYRACUSE -- Syracuse Police have identified the man who was shot in the latest officer-involved shooting.
Ralph Ash, 49, of Catherine Street, remains in critical condition at Upstate University Hospital after being shot by a Syracuse police officer.
It happened on the 600 block of Catherine Street, on the city's northside about 3:30 Sunday afternoon.
Police say there was a call regarding an emotionally disturbed person. Family members called police after Ash was acting irrationally. When police arrived, Ash threatened officers with what they are describing as an 'edged-weapon'. He refused to drop it, so police tased him to try to control him. When that didn't work, officers fired their weapons.
Three shots were fired. Ash was hit three times.
The police officers involved were not hurt.
This is the second officer involved shooting in a few days. On Thursday night, police were called to Grace Street for a report of a man attempting to break into a home. Police say Adam Goodman pointed his weapon at officers and refused to put it down. That's when an officer shot Goodman who died.
The weapon was a BB gun that police say looked like a handgun.
We asked Chief Frank Fowler about the two incidents. He says they are not related.
