Todd Hall honored for delivering, during training

Photo
Dispatcher Todd Hall, new to the job, was in training at the Onondaga County 911 Center when a call came in from a woman, saying her granddaughter was in labor. He quickly realized the baby was going to come before the ambulance, so talked the women through the emergency process and kept them calm. The baby was born within ten minutes, then EMS arrived and took over.

Hall says he was just doing his job:  "Virtually anyone in the world can be a hero.  You don't have to wear a uniform, you don't have to have a patch on your sleeve, you don't have to have any special training.  It's timing and the fact that you're faced with a problem, faced with the emergency, and it's time to step up and take care of it.'

For his stepping up, Todd Hall is being honored as the 2011 Red Cross Dispatch Real Hero.
