SYRACUSE -- The Syracuse Police Department announced a new cold case website that features unsolved homicides.
Sgt. Tom Connellan says the website will assist the cold case detectives in the development of new information which may lead police to the identification and arrest of those who may have committed any of the crimes listed on the site.
Connellan says the website allows the public to view cold cases and submit information about any of the persons or cases on the site. All tips may be submitted anonymously.
According to the Syracuse Police website, there are currently 66 open homicide cases, the oldest dating back to 1952, and 9 open prolonged missing persons investigations.
The website features a few of those cases, including the death of Jill-Lyn Euto, who was found in her James Street apartment on Superbowl Sunday 10 years ago, and the Al's Auto murders of Ron Lardeo and Michael Nappi in 1991.
Police Chief Frank Fowler says in many of the cases, he is confident someone has the information that could crack the case. "Every family is entitled to closure, be it a missing person or a cold case homicide they are entitle to closure," Fowler says, "We work very hard to bring about closure to each of these cases here."
