ONEIDA -- Sean M. Jones, 23, was arrested and after Oneida City Police responded to reports of a suspicious person in the Williams Street area around 2:15am Tuesday.

Police say Jones allegedly burglarized a car before moving onto a home. The home owner reportedly spotted Jones and chased him down Williams Street into a wooded area.

Oneida Police, State Police, and the Madison County Sheriff’s Department set up a perimeter around the area Jones was believed to be in and called in a K-9 to track down the suspect.

Police say Jones was located and arrested in the Storage Buildings Facility lot on Monihan Place.

At the time of arrest, police say that Jones possessed items that were stolen from a vehicle on North Lake Street and items stolen from a home on Gladwell Ave. It is alleged that Jones broke into the vehicle and residence and stole property.

Jones allegedly began the burglary spree in the 300 block of N. Lake Street, moved down Gladwell Ave., and then on to Williams Street.

Police say Jones was charged with grand larceny, two counts of criminal possession of stolen property, three counts of petit larceny, second and third degree burglary, and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Police say Jones will also be arraigned on a charge of second degree escape for attempting to flee when being transported to the jail.

Jones was arraigned and committed to Madison County Jail without bail. He is scheduled to appear in court later this week.

Owners of some of the recovered items have not yet been identified. Anyone that had property stolen is encouraged to contact the Oneida City Police at 315-363-2323.
