SYRACUSE -- If you are looking for an affordable college that offers top notch teaching in environmental studies, SUNY’s College of Environmental Science and Forestry could be the school for you.
The national publication, The Princeton Review, just named the school one of the best value colleges in the country. SUNY ESF Vice President Dr. Robert French says the school’s hands-on approach to education is a big reason for the schools growing popularity.
Dr. French says, "It's a college that also puts a great emphasis on learning by doing so, we will get students out in the field doing research or doing internships."
Nick Halat, a sophomore Environmental Studies major at SUNY ESF, says he is glad he came to SUNY ESF. He says the close knit atmosphere on campus makes it a great place to learn.
“That helps it even more so it is very helpful. It is very personal here and that's what I really enjoy about it," says Halat.
The Princeton Review commended SUNY ESF for keeping costs down, offering generous financial aid and excellent academic programs. The selection was based on surveys with students from more than six hundred colleges and universities. Dr. French says the number of applicants to the school is increasing each year.
We have students here from 42 different states and 30 different countries so its not just New York State students who are applying. We are actually well known across the country.
SUNY ESF is getting recognition from other national publications. USA Today ranked the college 50th and Forbes ranked the school the 26th best in the country.
