LIVERPOOL -- More than 400 runners hit the snowy pavement Saturday at Onondaga Lake Park for the Lake Effect Half Marathon.

Runners had to be extra careful during the 13.1 mile course. The high winds and snow were challenging.

"The atmosphere is exactly what we're looking for," says Sean Gavigan, who attended the race. "A couple of days ago it was 41 degrees and it's called the Lake Effect Half Marathon so we got what we were looking for."

This was the first year for this run which was part of Winterfest.

"This has been pretty amazing," said Race Director Todd Robertson. "The winter has been very mild for training and then to have this kind of day on marathon day is pretty amazing."
